The Tunisian Football Federation announced the appointment of Hervé Renard as coach of the Tunisia national football team after the termination of Sabri Lamouchi's contract. This decision comes after the heavy defeat the team suffered in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup, losing 5-1 to Sweden. This marks Tunisia's worst defeat in World Cup history since their first participation in 1978. Renard will assume his duties as head coach starting this evening, retaining the same financial benefits. An agreement has also been made to open negotiations for long-term cooperation after the World Cup. Before his appointment, Renard achieved significant successes in African football, including leading Zambia and Ivory Coast to win the Africa Cup of Nations. The Tunisia national football team is set to face Japan on Saturday, June 20, in the second round of Group F matches at the World Cup, followed by a match against the Netherlands on June 25.
