The Tunisia national football team has signed Hervé Renard to coach the team in the 2026 World Cup, after overnight negotiations with the Tunisian Football Federation. Renard will arrive in Mexico on Tuesday to take over as coach of the Carthage Eagles, replacing former coach Sabri Lamouchi. This sudden change in the team's technical staff presents new challenges for the French coach, who could not refuse them during the few hours of negotiations with the Tunisian Football Federation on Monday. Renard previously coached the Moroccan national team in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and then the Saudi national team, which pulled off a stunning upset against Argentina in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Renard will receive a monthly salary of approximately 30,000 euros, in addition to other ranking incentives, including a bonus of 100,000 euros if Tunisia finishes the group stage in first place. With the tight schedule ahead of the team's match against Japan on Sunday, June 21, Renard will be in a race against time to find suitable ideas and effective plans to avoid the disappointment of the Sweden match. The French coach is expected to meet with members of the Tunisian Football Federation and then with the players in a brief introductory session at the hotel before starting the first training session in preparation for the Japan match.
